Loyalists have been blamed for placing a bomb under the car of a county councillor outside Belfast today.
Northern Ireland Labour Party councillor Mr Mark Langhammer noticed damage to the side of his car as he was about to take his children to school this morning. The device had exploded some time earlier.
Mr Langhammer said he was targeted by loyalists because he was helping in the opening of a weekly police clinic in the loyalist Rathcoole estate today.
The Newtownabbey councillor said: "I have in my role as a councillor been trying to establish a policing presence in both the Catholic and Protestant districts of my constituency.
"In particular I have worked with church and community leaders to establish a policing clinic in Rathcoole, that is the sole and direct reason for me being targeted."
Police described the bomb as an improvised device.
