A heated exchange is expected tonight when Galway councillors discuss a report into the circumstances surrounding the death of a tenant on the day she was due to be evicted.
Bríd Cummins (48) was found dead in a council flat in Munster Avenue in Galway city on December 6th. The city mayor, Cllr Catherine Connolly, has described a report compiled by council management as "confusing" and has called for a full inquiry.
She said she was shocked that people believed the report exonerated the council. Drawn up by acting city manager, Mr Joe O'Neill, the report will be debated for the first time tonight.
It states that council management were working behind the scenes to ensure that Ms Cummins was not left homeless for Christmas. Cllr Connolly said she would repeat her call for an inquiry but she is likely to be criticised by other councillors.
