McLaren's David Coulthard snapped world champion Michael Schumacher's run of six successive victories todaywhen he won a thrilling Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Briton's first win since the French Grand Prix last July, ahead of second-placed Schumacher and Nick Heidfeld in a Sauber, will be rememberedmost for the unveiling of a stunning Formula One talent - Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya.

Montoya, in only his third race for Williams, barged past Schumacher's Ferrari on the first corner of the third lap to take the lead in a movestraight from the German's box of driving tricks.

He matched Schumacher move for move and had built a useful lead until the 38th lap when backmaker Jos Verstappen, in an Arrows, hit him frombehind and forced his retirement.

Coulthard and Schumacher were left to scrap for the lead, both changing to intermediate tyres after heavy rain began to fall. The Germanchampion spun twice as his famed skill in the rain deserted him.

Coulthard made the decisive move on the 50th lap when he attacked Schumacher as they both passed backmarker Tarso Marques's Minardi andthe Scot came out ahead after taking the inside line.

It was Coulthard's 10th victory. Schumacher had won the first two races of the season.

Coulthard's McLaren team mate Mika Hakkinen stalled on the grid while Rubens Barrichello, in the second Ferrari, had a nightmare day in front ofhis home fans which ended with him ramming Ralf Schumachers' Williams on the third lap and losing a wheel.

Both the Jordans were in the points until the final laps when Frentzen had to retire with a mechanical failure.Jarno Trulli tried to grab third place but was beaten back into fifth by unlikely contenders Nick Heidfeld and Olivier Panis.
