Corot: The Poetry Of Landscape, by Vincent Pomarede and Gerard de Wallens (Thames & Hudson, New Horizons Books, £6.95 in UK)

This comes just after the ending of the major Corot exhibition in Paris, and it is informative, unpretentious and - within the limits of its small format - well illustrated. One of the giants of a great period, Corot painted in many genres . . . besides landscape, and his major mythological pictures and the late nudes are only now getting their due. He was also that relatively rare thing in art or literature, a nice and well balanced man.
