Cork 1-11 Galway 1-8

Cork recorded their first victory of the National Football League with a three point victory over All-Ireland champions Galway at Tuam Stadium this afternoon.

The win for Larry Tompkins' side relegates Offaly to bottom of Division 1A after they lost away to Roscommon.

Galway led by four points to three at half-time and stretched that lead when Matthew Clancy found the net immediately after the restart.

But Cork - who trailed by five at one stage - were not down and out and hit back moments later through dual-star Diarmuid O'Sullivan who scored 1-2 to level the game.

Galway faded out of the contest at this stage and allowed Cork apply match winning pressure.

Brendan Jer O'Sullivan pointed a remarkable point from way out the field to finish off the contest and secure crucial points for the Munster side.

Roscommon 1-15 Offaly 2-11

Roscommon staged a brilliant injury-time comeback to deny Offaly victory at Dr Hyde Park.

Offaly played the better football in the opening half and led 1-5 to 0-7 at the break.

Roscommon took the initiative early in the second half but Offaly always looked dangerous going forward and snatched what appeared a match-winning goal in the 30th minute through substitute Donie Ryan.

Offaly led by five points at this stage but Roscommon hit back with a John Hanley goal and two further points to level the game.

Roscommon's Nigel Dineen then hit the winning point in the fifth minute of injury-time to secure the points and leave Offaly rooted to the bottom of the table.

Dublin 3-13 Westmeath 1-16

Dublin's forwards turned in an inspired performance to lift Tommy Lyons' side to a three point win over a gallant Westmeath side at Parnell Park.

Centre-forward Shane Ryan - recently converted from corner back - scored two brilliant first half goals and John McNally's thunderbolt penalty lifted Dublin to a 3-5 to 0-10 lead at the break.

Westmeath were more composed in the second half and settled into the game. JP Casey picked off excellent points while Rory O'Connell gained good possession in the middle of the park.

Westmeath scored a fortunate goal in the second half when a Dublin defender, attempting to clear Paul Conway's shot, drove the ball past his own 'keeper.

  • Limerick caused the shock of the day after beating Kerry by two points at the Gaelic Grounds. Limerick have yet to be beaten in this year's league campaign and sit proudly at the top of Division 2A.
