Committee has first meeting

THE inaugural meeting of the all party committee on the Constitution was held in Government Buildings yesterday.

THE inaugural meeting of the all party committee on the Constitution was held in Government Buildings yesterday.

Its chairman, Mr Jim O'Keeffe, said after the meeting that they aimed to prepare a programme for constitutional amendment.

This idea would allow the Oireachtas to carry out in an orderly way, "over the necessarily long period such a process requires", the series of changes necessary to adapt our political system to the needs of all citizens.
