Scotland 3 England 29
England ran in four tries in a comfortable win as Scotland could only muster a measly penalty goal in the Calcutta Cup match at Murrayfield.
With less than a quarter hour gone England were 12 points clear courtesy of two famously taken tries from Rugby League convert, Jason Robinson and a conversion from Johnny Wilkinson.
Twice in five minutes Robinson showed a clean pair of heels to out pace the Scottish defence out wide.
Scottish out-half Duncan Hodge could only manage to land one penalty from four very kickable attempts to leave them trailing by nine at the break.
However, Scotland started the second half with a lot more gusto and concerned England on more than one occasion. But, an unlucky bounce of the ball from a kick ahead saw England centre Mike Tindall run in unopposed from 5 metres.
Wilkinson kicked the conversion and then tacked on a penalty on 68 minutes.
With 20 minutes still to play Scotland weren’t out of it but poor decision making and a reckless disregard for protecting their hard earned ball ensured they didn’t breach an impenetrable England defence.
England put some gloss on the scoreline when Ben Cohen crashed over in the corner 6 minutes into injury time. Substitute Charlie Hodgson added the extra points.
