A clean-up is underway after overnight gales caused widespread damage and disruption across the country. Over 40,000 homes in Dublin and the east coast are without electricity this morning as a result of the storm damage.

Transport services in Dublin have also been badly disrupted. The DART line between Malahide and Howth Junction is closed due to damage to overhead wires. DART services between the city and Dun Laoghaire have also been severely disrupted because of a fallen tree on the line.

Part of the main N9 that was closed by a fallen tree near Castledermot has now been cleared and is open again.

There may be some delays to services through Mallow, Co Cork however it is hoped that it will not affect trains on this section of track.
