There will be readings and offal aplenty on offer in Dublin next week as the annual Bloomsday celebrations get underway in the city
The annual literary hooley marking James Joyce's
Ulyssesruns from June 12th to 16th and will involve the usual kidney-laden breakfasts and readings at numerous venues as well as a host of walking tours and the occasional boater-hat wearing dandy dressed in the fashions of 1904 cycling through the city.
The annual celebration of the wanderings of Leopold Bloom on June 16th 1904 will also include free readings and songs – including a karaoke-style interpretation of the novel in Meeting House Square and four separate literary walking tours aimed at bring the novel to life.
Three Bloomsday Breakfast will take place at the James Joyce Centre in North Great George's Street on the morning of June 16th at a cost of €18 per person.
There will also be a screening of the award-winning documentary, Imagining Ulysses at the Irish Film Institute next Saturday while talks by Barry McGovern, John McCourt, and Sam Slote, John Huston's classic film,
The Deadwill compete for the attention of lovers of the book.
