Dublin City Council has purchased a fleet of bio-fuel cars in a bid to ensure its workers are environmentally friendly, it was revealed today.
A fleet of 18 Ford Focus Flexi-Fuel vehicles were delivered to staff operating housing, drainage and waste management services for residents and customers. Lord Mayor Cllr Vincent Jackson confirmed the new fleet ensured the council was the first local authority to use vehicles run on bio-ethanol. The council said the vehicles - 10 per cent of the council's car fleet - would cost the same money to purchase and run as petrol cars. "I am delighted that Dublin City Council has chosen bio-fuel cars to replace older cars in our fleet as it is more environmentally friendly and promotes the use of renewable fuel resources," said Mr Jackson. "We are the first local authority to purchase bio-fuel cars and I hope our choice will encourage many in both the private and public sectors to follow our lead."
