THE CIE group of unions has asked the Labour Relations Commission to intervene in its pay dispute with the company.

Management told the unions on Thursday that it was not prepared to pay the latest 2.5 per cent increase due under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work until a new viability plan was agreed.

The increase was due to manual employees from October 1st. Clerical staff are entitled to it from December 1st, under the terms of the PCW.

It is understood that the company will accede to the union request for LRC intervention. A hearing is expected within the next 10 days.
