London - Divorcees may soon be granted permission to re-marry in church if the Church of England Synod approves recommendations in a new report published today. The head of a working party which has been looking at the issue, the Bishop of Winchester, the Right Rev Michael Scott-Joynt, writes in today's edition of the Times newspaper that "the Christian Church, right from the beginning, has lived with the reality that some marriages fail and end, that some couples part".
Clarifying the confusion over when divorcees can be married in church does not mean the Church will remarry on demand, he says.
