Beijing - China warned Japan yesterday over a series of thorny issues that threaten to disrupt relations, including a possible visit by former Taiwan president, Mr Lee Teng-hui, to Tokyo. The Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman, Ms Zhang Qiyue, repeated a demand that Tokyo refuses Mr Lee a visa to avoid harming Sino-Japanese ties.

Beijing also "strongly opposed" Japan's import curbs on three Chinese farm products, and urged Tokyo to take action against a history textbook that glossed over Japan's wartime aggression, Ms Zhang told a news conference.
