Beijing - China has accused Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, of masterminding explosions and assassinations in Tibet, state media reported yesterday citing comments by a Chinese official in Tibet, Mr Xu Mingyang.
In an interview with a group of foreign reporters in Lhasa, Mr Xu partially confirmed reports which said a Tibetan independence supporter was arrested for pulling down a Chinese flag in Lhasa and trying to replace it with a Tibetan flag. But Mr Xu denied the man was beaten to death by police.
The London-based Tibet Information Network said last week that Mr Tashi Tsering, a building contractor in his 30s, died in the police hospital in Lhasa after he was beaten.
