LABOUR MEP Nessa Childers has described the proposed EU intergovernmental treaty as potentially "dangerous" and has called on her party to reject it as currently drafted, writes MARY MINIHAN.
In a letter to Labour TDs, Senators and fellow MEPs, Ms Childers said she wanted to “share her concerns” about the treaty.
“There is almost political unanimity that the treaty is not only unsuitable, but may also be dangerous in that it will make the situation worse.
“MEPs voiced the opinion that the agreement was not needed and that the markets were not convinced by it because what is needed is a coherent economic policy.
“As it stands, there is no plan for jobs and fairness, and it bypasses the European parliament, ensuring that MEPs cannot protect the interests of ordinary people.”
