Child rescued in Derry hostage drama
Police in Derry have stormed a house where a man was holding a child hostage.
A PSNI spokesman said the man was arrested and the boy was released after officers forcibly entered the house at Castledawson. The four-year-old was said to be shocked but unharmed.
The drama began at about 4:00 a.m. today when the man barricaded himself into his house with his son following a domestic dispute.
Police negotiators were called, and they conducted lengthy exchanges with thew man throughout the day.
Eventually, officers were forced to use force and burst into the house, the spokesman said.
