The RUC has made contact with the mother of two babies abandoned outside the station in Newry, Co Down.
It was last night trying to trace the child minder who abandoned the babies yesterday. The woman had called at houses in the Park Head and Derrybeg estates before being driven by taxi to the police station. When the taxi stopped, the woman jumped out and ran off, leaving the boy and girl, aged about 10 and 18 months, in the vehicle.
The babies were last night in the care of the social services.
