Chemical weapons found in Taliban building

A British munitions expert says he has found chemical weapons ready for firing in a Taliban government building.

Mr Bob Gannon made the discovery in the Agriculture Ministry in Kabul.

He says the one-litre canisters containing unknown substances had been manufactured to be fired as a projectile.

Mr Gannon is in Afghanistan working for the landmine charity Halo Trust, reports The Mirror.

He says the chemical casings are Soviet produced, marked "CCCP" and daubed with skull and crossbones.

He added: "I don't know what is in them and nor does anybody else, but we are taking no chances with them.

"I have told my men not to touch them and we have notified the British and Americans and will let them come and take care of them when they come in.

"What made me think that these were chemical weapons is because they are made like conventional ordnance. They are casings and specifically designed to take a rocket head so that they can be used as a projectile."

Mr Gannon and his team have already removed grenades, ammunition, arms and heavy munitions from government offices across Kabul.
