Tel Aviv - Charlie Chaplin's daughter, Geraldine, told a Tel Aviv court yesterday she wants a million dollars from the Israeli state lottery for using his "little tramp" character to promote their business.
Ms Chaplin said her family never would have allowed the lottery to use the silent film star's famous image of a hobo in a bowler hat, because her father disapproved of gambling.
An Israeli court has already ruled that the lottery violated the family's rights to Chaplin's image in an advertising campaign that began in 1991. An Israeli actor played the little tramp in TV commercials, and the image was printed on posters and billboards. The hearing to decide damages continues today, but a decision is not expected for several months.
