Channel Four names BBC man in top job

Britain's Channel Four has appointed BBC director Mr Mark Thompson as its new chief executive.

Britain's Channel Four has appointed BBC director Mr Mark Thompson as its new chief executive.

Mr Thompson, director of television at the BBC, will take up his new post at the beginning of March 2002.

He replaces Mr Michael Jackson, who left Channel Four in October to become president and chief executive officer of USA Entertainment based in New York.
