Britain's number one sprinter Dwain Chambers will be fit to run in next week's European Championships despite pulling up with cramp in the dramatic Commonwealth 100 metres final.

The 24-year-old Chambers will start as favourite in the championships which start in Munich on Tuesday after the withdrawal of prodigious 19-year-old Briton Mark Lewis-Francis, who suffered a micro-tear of his hamstring in the Commonwealth final.

Chambers also pulled up in agony as Kim Collins of St Kitts and Nevis cruised to gold last Saturday.

But Chambers' problem has been identified as cramp because he had not been taking the correct fluids, said British athletics performance director Max Jones yesterday.

"Dwain is OK," said Jones. "It is cramp and he was not injured. He drank a lot of water but not enough drinks with the right ingredients.

"He's a big bloke and he sweats a lot.

"Physically he is 100 percent."

Neither Lewis-Francis nor Chambers, who was fifth in last year's world championships, took any part in England's win in the 4x100m relay on Wednesday.
