Cash taken in raid on bank in Tuam

Gardaí in Tuam, Co Galway, are investigating a raid on a bank in the town yesterday during which an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

The incident took place at the Allied Irish Bank in Vicar Street at about 2.30pm, when two to three men armed with an unspecified "weapon" entered the premises.

One of the men is said to have climbed over the counter during the robbery.

No one was injured in the incident, but staff were in shock afterwards.

The men left the premises with what gardaí describe as a "small" amount of cash.

One man is described as being 5ft 10ins and wearing a blue top, blue jeans, runners and a fisherman's cap.

A second man is described as being smaller.
