Some of the children were performing sexual acts in the images found.

The case arises from "Operation Amethyst", during which over 500 gardaí raided more than 90 residential and commercial properties.

The case was adjourned yesterday to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions to review a submission made by Mr Breen's solicitor. Mr Pat Newell applied last month to have the case adjourned to allow for further directions from the DPP.

Mr Newell sought clarification from the DPP in relation to the charge. At a previous sitting of the court, Mr Breen's solicitor had highlighted his defendant's lack of knowledge of the mechanics of downloading porn.

In court yesterday Mr Newell told Judge William Harnett that he believed the State needed more time to consider his submission.

State solicitor Mr Frank Hutchinson acknowledged that this was the case. Judge Harnett adjourned the matter until July 31st to give the DPP time to consider Mr Newell's submission.

Mr Breen, an electrician by trade, was given continuing bail.
