Rural communities which provide their own water sup plies in group schemes should not be expected to pay extra car tax for the abolition of water charges in urban areas, the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association has said.
The association said the suggestion that car taxes could be used pay for the abolition of water charges in urban areas "has all the ingredients for a typical anti rural Irish joke".
The Federation of Dublin Anti Water Charges Campaigns described the claim that rural Ireland was paying for free water for urban residents as a "sick joke".
