The England international defender left Spurs when his contract ran out this summer and turned down lucrative offers from clubs in Spain and Italy to make the short move to Highbury.

But after Spurs fans vented their anger at his decision, the 26-year-old insisted change was part of footballing life and called for his critics to "move on".

"Maybe it was a natural kind of response but hopefully it will die down. Both parties need to move on, football goes on.

"I spent a lot of years at Spurs but now I am at Arsenal. Change comes to everyone," he told a British morning newspaper.
