The possibility of private funding for the Dundrum bypass in south Co Dublin has been raised by the Minister of State for the Taoiseach, Mr Seamus Brennan.
Suggesting the by-pass might become the Government's first "partnership" approach to the provision of new infrastructure, Mr Brennan said he was "actively following new funding initiatives in tandem with the Minister for the Environment, Mr Dempsey". The Minister has suggested that commercial organisations in the area, such as large shopping centres, might volunteer to contribute to the construction of the road to increase business for themselves.
