US: President Bush and film actress Halle Berry shared the top Golden Raspberry Awards on Saturday in the annual pre-Oscars ritual in Hollywood where those who appear on screen are judged on how bad their performances are.

Just 24 hours before America's biggest acting and directing stars converged on Hollywood for the Oscars ceremony, Mr Bush won worst male actor for his appearance in Michael Moore's documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 in which he read a story about a goat to schoolchildren as the September 11th attacks were taking place.

Mr Bush also got singled out as half of the year's worst screen couple when paired with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was named worst supporting actor for his role in Fahrenheit 9/11 and pop star Britney Spears was judged worst supporting actress for a scene in which she enthused about Bush's policies while chewing gum.

Meanwhile, over at the real Oscars, ABC executives have forced actor Robin Williams to drop a comic song from the show because it allegedly offended against political correctness.

Mr Williams, in his one minute on stage presenting the Academy Award for best animated feature, wanted to satirise the evangelical critic James Dobson and his organisation Focus on the Family for criticising the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants as "pro-homosexual" in a video about tolerance. The actor wrote a mock exposé of cartoon characters.

It "revealed" that Pinocchio had his nose done, Sleeping Beauty was popping pills, Jessica Rabbit was really a man, Olive Oyl was anorexic, Bugs Bunny was a sexaholic, the Road Runner was hooked on speed and Pocahontas was addicted to craps.

ABC officials objected to lines that might be seen as glorifying drug abuse or offending minorities or people with disabilities like anorexia. When executives insisted on changes William dropped the item.
