Pretoria - The leaders of Burundi's main rebel groups yesterday returned to the negotiating table after a three-year absence when they joined five African heads of state in a regional summit.

A source close to the summit said Mr Jean-Bosco Ndayikengurukiye, the leader of the Forces for the Defence of Democracy (FDD), "walked into the room and started talking" while the presidents of Burundi, Uganda, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Tanzania discussed an interim government for Burundi.
