Braving the gale-force blow, some 100 supporters of the Burren Action Group held their annual New Year's Day walk yesterday to protest against the continuing plans for a visitors' centre at Mullaghmore.

After an address by Father Sean MacDonagh, chairman of the new environmental organisation VOICE, supporters walked a shorter version of the traditional route.

Ms Martina O'Dea, a member of the group, last night urged the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Ms de Valera, to end the impasse. "We want her as a Minister and as a Clare TD to take a decision. Nothing is happening in Corofin and Kilfenora because of the lack of action."
