RTÉ rugby pundit and NewsTalk 106 presenter George Hook has been fined €250 for speeding at 95 miles per hour outside Nenagh, Co Tipperary.

Mr Hook (52) with an address at Foxpark, Dublin 18, was caught speeding on his way to the Ireland versus Romania World Cup rugby match at Thomond Park in Limerick last September.

Judge Tom O'Donnell at Nenagh District Court warned Mr Hook through his solicitor, Mr Noel O'Meara, he was giving him his 'last chance'.

Mr Hook did not appear in court.

Mr O'Meara told the court that Mr Hook was at a function in Wicklow Rugby Club on the day in question and was rushing to Limerick for the Irish World Cup game against Romania the following afternoon.

Judge O'Donnell said that he remembered a previous occasion when Mr Hook was before Thurles District Court on a similar, but separate, speeding charge last July. On that occasion, Mr Hook had used a similar excuse relating to a rugby match, he said.

Judge O'Donnell fined Mr Hook €250 and ordered him the pay the amount within two months.
