The RUC is expected to question several hundred British soldiers about the murder of a young man whose body was discovered in a shallow grave three weeks ago in Ballykelly, Co Derry. Police stress that the interviews with soldiers formed part of the overall inquiry.
The police also released details about the murder yesterday, as his mother appealed for the public's help to track down the killer. Police said they had recovered the leg of a chair and a piece of timber, which they believed was used to beat Mr Jonathan Cairns (18) to death. His body was recovered in Lougheramore Forest, five miles from his home.
British soldiers based at Shackleton barracks have also been questioned after claims of tensions between off-duty soldiers and local youths, but police are stressing they are following a number of leads.
