London - Britain's royal family has told ministers it will not fight to keep its right to sit and vote in the unelected upper chamber, the House of Lords, when the government disbars members who inherited their seats.

A government spokesman said it had been contacted by the royal household and told that members of the family would "fall into line" with the government's plans to strip the hereditary peers of their right to sit and vote.
