Oil giant BP Plc said today it has cut a further 800 contracting jobs in the North Sea, on top of the 500 job cuts already announced in the region, but said many of these workers would move to jobs with BP's contractors.
"Many of them will move on to new positions within the 250 contractor companies BP uses," said a spokesman for the group.
He said BP had been in consultation with the contractors since it announced its intention in March to review its employee numbers in the North Sea.
The spokesman said the decision was made with immediate effect and the move would be implemented over the next couple of months.
