Galway city's residential centre for homeless boys, Cyrene House, is due to close with the loss of eight jobs under a rationalisation plan for child care services, according to the trade union Impact.

The Western Health Board, which funds the facility run by Galway Diocesan Youth Services, denied that closure had been decided, but confirmed that its future was under discussion.
