KEITH Mahon (13), who made a vain attempt to save his friend from drowning in the Grand Canal on Thursday, died in Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin, yesterday.
He dived into the canal at the Ninth Lock, Clondalkin after his non swimmer friend Jason Ryan (11) became entangled in a submerged shopping trolley.
