A two-year-old boy was being treated at a Cork hospital last night for suspected meningitis.

He was attending a creche in north Cork when he was admitted to hospital in Cork city as a precautionary measure.

Confirming that the child had been admitted suspected of suffering from the meningococcal bacterial form, the Southern Health Board in Cork said it could make no comment other than to confirm that he was making a good recovery.
