Body of man found in Dublin apartment

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead in his apartment with a series of knife wounds.

The alarm was raised at 4pm yesterday after a call to the emergency services by the landlord of Linnbhla Apartments in Ballymun after he could not gain access to his property.

Gardaí forced entry and discovered the body of a man with knife wounds. The apartment was immediately sealed off for a technical examination.

State Pathologist Marie Cassidy visited the scene before carrying out a preliminary examination. The body was later removed to the city morgue and a full postmortem will be carried this morning at 10am.

The man was a foreign national and is believed to have been in his 30s. It is not yet known how long the body was at the apartment before the alarm was raised.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity at the complex between last Friday and yesterday to come forward to the incident room at Ballymun Garda station. Garda Supt David Taylor said gardaí had a “particular interest” in those two dates in terms of “activity at that apartment”.

Gardaí are working with their international partners to establish the man’s identity.
