A film re-creation of the Bloody Sunday march, which ended with the deaths of 13 unarmed civilians and the wounding of 14 others, was staged in Derry yesterday, reports George Jackson.

The £3 million film, entitled Bloody Sunday, is a joint production between the Jim Sheridan-owned Hell's Kitchen Company and Granada Films. It tells the story of the events of January 30th, 1972, through the eyes of four main characters.

Actor James Nesbitt plays the part of civil rights leader and MP Ivan Cooper.

Another Irish actor, Gerry McSorley, takes the role of Supt Frank Lagan, who was Derry's RUC commander 30 years ago.

The part of Brig Pat McLellan, who was commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade on Bloody Sunday, is played by Nicholas Farrell and the fourth main character is Paratrooper Lomas.

Among the crowd who took part in yesterday's filming were many who marched on Bloody Sunday, including several of those who were injured as well as relatives of many of the victims.
