A protest against fox hunting on the land of Bishop John Kirby is being held tomorrow in Loughrea, Co Galway.

Mr Tom Hardiman, a retired farmer from Craugh well, who is organising the protest, said that the practice was cruel and he wanted to "try to get the bishop to see the light".

The hunt passes through part of the bishop's land at Coorheen, Loughrea.

Dr Kirby, who is Bishop of Clonfert, said that he gave "very precise guidelines" for the huntsmen to follow, which expressly forbade the digging out of foxes and the closing of foxes' dens to prevent their escape.
