BIG Red Racing has finally made the shelves. After much toing and froing about its release the publishers obviously feel they have ironed out the cracks and at first glance it looks as though they have succeeded.

It's a carnival of motor racing with a touch of boat and helicopter racing added in. While most of the vehicles are conventional, snow ploughs, diggers and dump trucks are also among the 18 oddball pieces of machinery you will have to master. With 24 tracks based anywhere from Venus to our own Emerald Isle, Big Red Racing certainly cannot be accused of lacking variety in the gameplay stakes.

Indeed Big Red Racing also provides split screen, serial, modem and network options. Controlling the vehicles, however, can be a bit dodgy. But when they do get it right, as is the case with the motor boat, its resemblance to the real thing is uncanny.

Big Red Racing is not for serious racing buffs, it is all about entertainment. The accompanying music, commentary, excellent graphics and the occasional piece of humour is certain to appeal to the Sunday drivers among us.
