Leading academic and commentator on Northern Irish politics Paul Bew is to become a member of the House of Lords.

Leading academic and commentator on Northern Irish politics Paul Bew is to become a member of the House of Lords.

He is professor of Irish Politics at Queen's University, Belfast, and the author of many publications on Northern Ireland, both past and present. He has also written extensively for The Irish Times.

A native of Belfast he attended Campbell College in Belfast and studied for his Masters and PhD at Cambridge.

Professor Bew (57) is married to Professor Greta Jones, a historian of Science and Medicine at the University of Ulster.
