A 29-year-old man is recovering in Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry from serious injuries received in a paramilitary attack in the Galliagh area of the city late on Thursday night.

Seven masked men, one of them armed with a hand gun, burst into a house and called out the man's name. They beat him with iron bars and wooden clubs with nails in them. The man suffered a broken leg, broken arm and a broken collar bone as well as multiple lacerations and puncture wounds. His attackers, who said they were from the IRA, then ordered him to leave Derry within 24 hours.
