A bangor man was "very seriously ill" last night in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital after sustaining five gunshot wounds to his upper body. The paramilitary-style punishment attack occurred in Bangor's Kilcoolie estate at 8.20 p.m. The attack is believed to be drugs-related and the injured man is said to be related to William "Wassey" Paul, who was shot dead in the same estate last July. The man underwent emergency surgery early this morning.

Progressive Unionist Party councillor Mr Stewart Currie, who lives in the area, condemned the attack. "I am sure I speak on behalf of everyone on the estate when I say that we are heartily sick of this incident and other incidents on this estate over the last 18 months. We have had two murders and now last night's situation. People don't deserve this sort of thing. Hopefully this is the last incident."
