New Delhi - A Booker Prize-winning author, Ms Arundhati Roy, yesterday made a defiant appearance at India's Supreme Court where she faces contempt charges over the construction of a dam in the western state of Gujarat.

Ms Roy, who won the 1997 Booker prize for her novel The God of Small Things, strongly opposes the proposed $3.9 billion Narmada dam.
