Attemtped murder charge over Belfast assault

A 23-year-old man was charged with attempted murder last night following a brutal assault in central Belfast at the weekend.

A 23-year-old man was charged with attempted murder last night following a brutal assault in central Belfast at the weekend.

He was accused of trying to kill Justin Kirkpatrick (23) from Ahoghill, Co Antrim, early on Sunday.

Mr Kirkpatrick was discovered with head injuries after being attacked near Dunbar Link in the city. It is understood he was injured as he got into a taxi. His family has maintained a vigil at his bedside since being told of the attack.

The accused will appear at Belfast Magistrates Court tomorrow morning. Three other men arrested in connection with the attack have been released pending reports.
