Attempt to avert scaffolders strike

Construction industry employers are to meet SIPTU today in an effort to avert widespread industrial action by scaffolders

Construction industry employers are to meet SIPTU today in an effort to avert widespread industrial action by scaffolders. The Scaffolders Society, an unofficial body, is to hold a mass meeting of its members in Liberty Hall, Dublin, this afternoon to hear a progress report on talks.

Industry sources were pessimistic that enough progress would be made to prevent unofficial industrial action. The scaffolders are seeking improved training, safety and health facilities, as well as an increase in their top rate of pay from £6.25 an hour to £18.
