The jury in the trial of a Dublin sales representative charged with buggering a female junior clerk in the Killiney Court Hotel has been sent to a hotel after failing to reach a verdict.

Mr Justice Budd at the Central Criminal Court sent the jury away after it had been deliberating for almost 31/2 hours. It will resume its deliberations this morning, the seventh day of the trial.

The 38-year-old married father of three denies raping the woman and sexually assaulting her on April 17th, 1997. The jury of six men and six women was told the alleged offence happened in the early hours of the morning after a party held by the company both worked for. Some staff members had been booked into the hotel by the company.
