Gardaí have issued an appeal to the public for information following an explosion on Dublin's northside last night.

No one was injured in the incident, and gardaí were investigating the motive behind the early-morning explosion.

The improvised explosive device (IED) detonated under a 4x4 vehicle which was parked on Holy Cross Avenue, off Clonliffe Road, at around 1.45am.

Local residents reported hearing a loud bang at that time. The vehicle's undercarriage was damaged in the explosion and some damage was also caused to the pavement.
