Nicosia - Cyprus is planning to erect a giant statue of the island's love goddess, Aphrodite, to rival the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty as a tourist attraction.
A local TV channel, Sigma, reported that the government was considering commissioning plans for a statue based on the Venus de Milo that authorities hoped would be labelled "the eighth wonder of the world". The structure would be built near the southern coastal resort of Paphos, where legend has it Aphrodite was born from the sea foam, Sigma said. It would include a library and a museum.
