Anti-war rallies were held in Dublin and London this afternoon as thousands of people marched in protest at proposed military action in Iraq.
More than 800 people marched from the Garden of Remembrance at Parnell Square along Dublin's O'Connell St just after 4 p.m. in protest at the expected war on Iraq. Protesters were also objecting to the use of Irish airports by the US Airforce.
Meanwhile almost 200,000 protesters took part in a British protest as part of growing opposition to Prime Minister Tony Blair's stance on Iraq.
Among the speakers who addressed the London rally from 3 p.m. were London Mayor Mr Ken Livingstone, ex-MP Mr Tony Benn, former United Nations weapons inspector Mr Scott Ritter and Mr Peter Price, the Bishop of Bath and Wells.
The US has drafted a United Nations resolution which aims to force Iraq to give details of its weapons programmes within days of a vote, or face possible military attack.
